The makers of Alka Seltzer, bring you Lum and Abner. Let's see what's going on down in Pine Ridge. Lum received his anxiously awaited letter from Mrs. Barrington in Kansas City.

Deal depends on that letter. If Mrs. Barrington says the jewels they found in the secret compartment of the box of insurance papers are hers, then they can return them to her and put the police on the trail of the man who calls himself Mr. Debro. If not, well, let's look in on the little community today and see what's going on.

what the old fellows have figured out by this time. We find Abner at Lumshouse, still hiding out. Well, I just come by to see whether we was going to open up the store there, keep on hiding now.

No, I don't care what you do. Don't let me up, leave it closed, hide out, or go out and open. I don't even care. In fact, I don't care for nothing. In grannies for two sins, I'd run off from home and join the Navy.

Go up in the mountains and then hermit myself. Well, what in the world is a matter with you? Ever since you got that letter, yes, do you, been as grouchy as an old wet set in hand?

There ain't nothing wrong with me. I'm just lost all interest in everything. All I can see is black clouds overhead. Why, the sun's shining as bright as I ever seen it. Not for me, it ain't.

Not for me. Well, you just can't see it here in a half-long with all the shades gold. Is that the reason you don't want to go outside for this going to rain? No, I mean, the sun ain't shining for me no more.
