Danger Wears Two Faces

Well, it's one I call danger where two faces began when a friend of mine in South Texas asked me to help him get back a herd of Russell Cattle.

California and I took the trail ourselves, following the herd as it headed for the Mexican border through the Big Bend Country, a land of border outlaws. And trailing a herd of stolen beef there was as healthy as playing paddy cake with an unhappy mountain lion.

We finally lost the trail on a rocky section but pushed on in hopes of picking it up again. Uh, hoppy, do we keep going? Sure, why not? What'll we do if we find them? Take the herd back and turn the rustlers over the wall, of course.

Oh, it was chilly immediately. I don't know why I didn't think of that. Well, great cross-eyed Copperhead. Look. What? Oh, a man lying in the road. I know this country would bring us trouble. Well, time to go home.
