Homecoming

I don't need a gun for you, Mr. You're all eaten up with fear and hate. The most you can hope for now is a fast death. Have gun! Will travel! Starring Mr. John Dana as Paladin.

San Francisco, 1875. The Carlsen Hotel. Headquarters of a man called Paladin. Mr. Paladin? Oh, yes, Miss Wong? You want light for us, you guy? Oh, I didn't realize I had light at least. Oh, you're a child.

Thank you. I know that you've seen it a long time. Study item in newspaper. Yes, so turn back the clock into the Hammond Sentinel last week's edition. Now, read it the item. Oh, I can't.

Deathbed confession clears Ed Stacy. Dying of gunshot wounds suffered in a futile attempt to rob the overland stage. Joe Barnes, a former driver, confessed to another hold up two years ago. And exonerated Ed Stacey, who had been convicted of the crime and sentenced to a long term in prison.

Oh, so? See, Miss Wong, two years ago, I brought Ed Stacey back for trial. Oh! Oh! You have pain from conscience, but you only do job, Mr. Palera. That's what I've been telling myself. Thank you, sir, yourself.

But at the same time, I don't like to feel it. I've been responsible for taking two years out of Minneson Man's life. I'm not so sure. Here's the rest of the newspaper report. Will Stanhope, president of the Overland Line, announced he would personally arrange for Stacy's release and express profound regret at the miscarriage of justice.

Oh, it's a good one. Sounds fine, doesn't it? Oh, he's fine. He's fine. Well, that telegram he delivered to me half an hour ago was from the same Will Stanhope. Hmm. What did I do with it?
