World News Today brought to you by Continental Radio and Television Corporation, makers of Admiral Radio, America's Smart Set. By shortwave broadcast, direct from important overseas stations, as well as the leading new centers of our own country, CBS Correspondents are waiting to bring you a complete report from the world's political and battlefronts.
But first, here's Doug Edwards. The big, allied offensive on the Tunisian front is rolling. American troops have captured Fonduk and the British are knifing ahead both in the North and South. RAF bombers have given Berlin its heaviest pounding of the war.
American planes have raided Rouen. The Red Army has captured seven settlements in the Smoliansk area. American planes have battered a jet bases throughout the Southwest Pacific and enemy bombers have retaliated with raids on our installations in the Solvans.
Now for our first report from overseas, Admiral Radio takes you to CBS Algiers, Charles Collingwood reporting. This is Charles Collingwood at Allied Force Headquarters in North Africa. The 8th Army's attack on the North Line is gathering momentum.
In the pump of a clock on the side itself, new advances were made southwest of the village of Merit. But what is much more spectacular is British Fork, which steps all the way around Rommel's flank, is now in the outskirts of Alabama.
All you have to do is look at a map to see what this means. El Hamo, marked on the hard map with the little palm trees that mean an oasis, is in the exact and geographical rear of the Merit line.
If not a flip to one of the rear, it is his rear. And from El Hamo to Gabbop and the coast is less than 20 miles. North of El Hamo, the other way up the fence, American forces are gradually overflowing onto the coastal plain.
