World News Today brought to you by Continental Radio and Television Corporation, makers of Admiral Radio, America's Smart Set. By a shortwave broadcast, direct from important overseas stations, as well as the leading news centers of our own country, CBS Correspondents are waiting to bring you a complete report from the world's political and battle fronts.
But first, here's John Daly. Heavy Allied Air Activity in Europe, in Africa, and in the Pacific is making secure the hard one hold on the initiative that the United Nations have gained in all the fronts of this war. In French North Africa, the political situation has held the center of the stage, but every day the military reports have told the story
of Allied fliers pounding at the Axis supply ports and strafing and bombing Axis land communications. This is the all-important preliminary to any all-out land offensive. British planes, bombed and machine-gunned enemy vehicles on the roads leading from the port of Spucks in Tunisia, and other allied airmen continued to hammer at access targets around the clock.
The raids were carried out by the new Bisley Plains of the Royal Air Force. Meanwhile, French headquarters announced that French troops fighting northwest of Cairo on had seized several important points near Jebel de Babou.
And now, for the news direct from French North Africa, Admiral Radio takes you to CBS Algiers' Charles Collingwood reporting. We regret that due to transmission difficulties, we are not able to get the report from Charles calling with Indonesia right now, so we turn to London for the report of a big air raid on Berlin.
For the details, Admiral Radio takes you now to CBS London, Bob Trout reporting. London expects to get the details of last night's raid on Berlin sometime after midnight tonight British time. So far, what we know about the Royal Air Force attack is that a strong force of heavy British bombers dropped a great weight of bombs on Berlin and large fires were seen from the air.
