Thanksgiving Fast

Believe it or not. In a moment I'll tell you a story about Thanksgiving when it was known as a fast day. Until the year 1631, the Stern Pilgrim celebrated their Thanksgiving Day by rigorously abstaining from food and drink.

In that year at Charlestown, the annual Thanksgiving Fast Day on February 5th was changed to a feast day for the first time, to celebrate the long-awaited arrival of a ship which landed with provisions from Ireland.

It was not until President Lincoln's time that Thanksgiving Day was generally designated for the last Thursday in November. Believe it or not.
