What happens

Frank Race, a former attorney turned OSS veteran, is hired by claims executive Chalmers Latham to look into the disappearance of two freighters operated by the Deneen family's shipping firm. Race quietly works the San Francisco waterfront, where he runs into Sally Deneen, whose charm complicates his inquiry. He is accosted in New York by hoodlums sent to scare him off, and in San Francisco he boards the Hackensack Victory, a ship whose master's cabin has been freshly altered. The episode ends with Race taking a hard look at the ship's identity and the family's finances.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
