What happens

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello star as Abbott and Costello, two broke men who take a job offering a thousand dollars to anyone who will spend a night in a supposedly haunted house. Costello agrees, partly because the money could help his mother and relatives, and the two head there after a series of comic exchanges around town. Inside the dark house they encounter strange noises, a figure in a sheet, and a woman who claims to be looking for a treasure map left by her late husband. The guide stops before the episode's ending. The episode was first broadcast on May 8, 1947, on NBC and ABC, with Joe Kirk, Elvia Allman, and Connie Haines in supporting roles.

A Hollywood-area town, a bookstore, a real estate office, and a haunted house on a dark night.

Characters: Abbott, Costello, Mrs. Whitwash, Marilyn Maxwell, Skinny Ennis, Lewis

Listen for: Costello's confusion about what a ghost is, and the exchange with the woman who claims to be searching for a treasure map.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
