What happens
Lou Costello and Bud Abbott are tempted by a real estate broker's offer of a thousand dollars to anyone who will spend a night in a supposedly haunted house. Costello, who wants to buy his mother a gift for Mother's Day, is reluctant at first but agrees to take the job. Abbott and Costello, the regular stars of the radio series, play the pair, and the episode was first broadcast on May 8, 1947 on NBC and ABC. Once inside the house, the two men encounter strange sights and a visitor who claims to be a ghost.
Hollywood, California, and a supposedly haunted house
Characters: Costello, Abbott, Mr. Brown, Mrs. Whitworth, Maryland
Listen for: Costello's reluctance to spend the night in the haunted house, and the arrival of Mrs. Whitworth
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
