What happens
Lou Costello and Bud Abbott are summoned to a movie studio to appear in a picture starring the Andrews Sisters. Costello's bumbling attempts to sing and act in front of the sisters provoke a string of confused exchanges, including arguments over the word scruples and mix-ups in a bookmaker's family. A pompous lawyer shows up claiming the sisters are suing the comedians over a remark made on the program. Eventually Costello and Abbott arrive on the set, where a director tries to explain a love scene to Costello, who struggles to follow his directions. The studio setting and a planned musical number with Connie Haines and the sisters frame the episode, which was broadcast on April 26, 1945 on NBC and ABC with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello.
A radio comedy program in 1945, with the story moving from the comedians' dressing room to a film studio set.
Characters: Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Connie Haines, Elvia Allman, Joe Kirk
Listen for: Costello's confusion over the word scruples and the who's-on-first style exchanges with Abbott about a bookmaker and a baker.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
