What happens

Lou Costello is sneezing and feeling unwell, and Bud Abbott tries to look after him. Costello insists he is fine, while Abbott frets about germs and colds spreading. Their confusion over a warning about flu and fleas leads them into a series of comic exchanges. Costello's health advice takes a strange turn when Peter Lorre offers the pair the services of his sanitarium, a remote and eerie place. Abbott and Costello are a pair of comedians in the long-running series Abbott and Costello, first heard on NBC and ABC in April 1948, with Joe Kirk and Elvia Allman in supporting roles. The episode comes from the 1948 radio run and follows the team's routine of verbal wordplay and escalating mishaps.

A house where Costello is unwell, and later Peter Lorre's remote sanitarium in the woods.

Characters: Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Peter Lorre

Listen for: Costello's sneezing and the fleas-and-flu wordplay, followed by the strange visit to the sanitarium.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
