What happens
Lou Costello is told his income tax is due the next day and he has no money to pay it. Bud Abbott, his partner, joins him as Costello tries to borrow $500 from neighbors, friends and his Uncle Artie Stebbins. Each attempt goes badly, and the pair end up at a confidential loan office. The Abbott and Costello program, broadcast on NBC and ABC in 1946, was a comedy series in which the two stars traded fast-paced banter.
Present-day Los Angeles, in and around the apartment building and streets of the neighborhood, shortly before the income tax deadline
Characters: Lou Costello, Bud Abbott, Mrs. Niles, Uncle Artie Stebbins, Scotty Brown, Mr. I.O. Silver
Listen for: Costello's repeated requests for a $500 loan and the escalating mix-ups over tax forms, where the money goes, and how he is turned down
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
