What happens
Lou Costello gets a telegram from columnist Erskine Johnson asking him to help dig up dirt for a Hollywood column, and he takes the job eagerly. Bud Abbott and Costello work the Hollywood beat, visiting a famous screen couple whose marriage is supposedly on the rocks, while Costello's notions of journalism keep getting in the way. Along the way the pair trade riddles, bets, and jokes with singer Susan Miller, who is part of the show. The episode is a broad comedy from the Abbott and Costello radio series, first broadcast on January 28, 1948 on NBC and ABC.
Hollywood, California, in the late 1940s, including a radio studio and the homes of film stars.
Characters: Lou Costello, Bud Abbott, Susan Miller, Erskine Johnson
Listen for: Costello's attempts to act as a columnist, the bet over where Abbott is, and the visit to the famous couple's house.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
