What happens

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello host their radio show with guest Arthur Lake, the actor who played Dagwood Bumstead. The program opens with a kids' contest, then Costello tries to retell Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and Abbott objects to his muddled version. Costello and Lake then play a series of scenes with children, including a bubble-blowing contest and a game of ball. The show closes with a segment honoring Marvin Dyer, a 13-year-old newspaper boy who supports his mother while attending school. The broadcast was originally aired on January 10, 1948, on NBC and ABC.

A radio studio broadcast for children, with a live studio audience and scenes that mix comedy sketches with prize segments.

Characters: Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Arthur Lake, Marvin Dyer

Listen for: Costello's garbled retelling of Romeo and Juliet and Abbott's exasperated corrections.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
