What happens
Lou Costello opens a beauty parlor on his own and quickly finds he knows little about the trade. His friend Bud Abbott tries to advise him, but the two keep stumbling into comic misunderstandings. Costello's sales attempts from house to house go no better, and the neighbors make the most of his blunders. This episode of the Abbott and Costello series first aired on NBC and ABC on December 27, 1945, with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in the leading roles, alongside Connie Haines, who sings during the program.
A newly opened beauty parlor and the surrounding neighborhood in Hollywood, around the New Year
Characters: Lou Costello, Bud Abbott, Connie Haines, Mrs. Niles, Scotty Brown, Officer Melonhead, Lena
Listen for: Costello's malapropisms and wordplay during the beauty-shop lessons, and the running argument over the calendar and the New Year
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
