What happens

Colonel Henry Grayson and his family live in Washington, where his daughter Cindy receives a doll, Toto, from the doll shop of Santo Perigee. Soon strange events follow: the family dog dies, a secret strong box vanishes from the colonel's study, and Cindy insists that Toto speaks to her. Perigee's shop is the setting for the story's unusual twists. This is an episode of X Minus One, a science fiction anthology series, first broadcast on June 5, 1955. The story is by George Lefferts, and the cast includes Janet Alexander as Cindy, Nelson Hayes as Henry and Joe DeSantis as Perigee. The transcript shown covers only the first part of the story.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
