What happens
Jim Pearson, a golf pro, makes a bet with Sam Hatcher that he can earn $50,000 in one year from golf. Hatcher has told him that if he does, he may marry Hatcher's daughter Alice. Pearson enters the U.S. Open, where a newcomer called Saul dominates the early rounds with an almost flawless game. Pete, the caddy, watches the two men closely and notices odd details in Saul's play. This is an episode of the radio series X Minus One, first broadcast on January 23, 1957, and the story is adapted from a Galaxy Science Fiction piece by James E. Gunn.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
