What happens
Gordon Knight, a suburban homeowner, receives a crate he ordered as a spaniel dog kit but which turns out to be a robot. Against his better judgment he assembles it and activates it, and the machine, Albert, quickly begins doing household chores and jobs around the property. His wife Grace is pleased, while Knight grows uneasy about keeping the machine. His friend Anson Lee, a lounging lawyer, is consulted about the situation. The episode is an X Minus One adaptation of the Clifford D. Simak story How-2, first broadcast on April 3, 1956.
A suburban home with a terrace, basement, and grounds, in a near-future America where robots exist.
Characters: Gordon Knight, Grace, Albert, Anson Lee
Listen for: Albert's first words after activation, and the moment Knight learns the robot can reproduce itself.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
