What happens

In a future where survivors of atomic war live deep underground, genetics professor Lois Burton studies a specimen named XJ-12, an imperfect man called Aaron. Lois is engaged to Walter, the director of emotional stability, who orders Aaron destroyed. After Aaron escapes into the radioactive tunnels, Lois follows him toward the surface. The episode is from the X Minus One radio series, first broadcast on November 3, 1955, and the transcript covers only the first part of the story.

Year 4195, an underground civilization built after the third atomic war, where the surface is a radioactive wasteland and survival of the genetic code is the prime consideration.

Characters: Lois Burton, Aaron, Walter

Listen for: Lois's decision to follow Aaron into the radioactive tunnels toward the surface.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
