What happens

Captain Summers and his crew of the spaceship Deidre are flying toward Mars when a firing mechanism fails and the ship overshoots its point of braking, pushing it beyond the solar system at nearly the speed of light. The navigator Watkins and the crewman Ratchet argue over what went wrong and what can be done. With fuel nearly gone and radio contact with Marsport fading, the crew turns to the ship's Farronson computer for a solution to their problem. Watkins voices his distrust of machines, and the tension among the three men rises as they wait for the computer's answer. The episode is X Minus One, a radio science fiction series, first broadcast on October 10, 1957, in a story by Ned Lang.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
