What happens
Captain Ira Warren leads a small expedition on the planet Landro, where a deadly plague has already forced the original inhabitants into hiding. When the serum meant to protect the crew proves to be ten years old, Warren sets out with Bat Ears Brady, Dr. Morgan and the anthropologist Benny Faulkner to seek help from the native cave dwellers. Faulkner communicates with a native by tapping on a water bottle, and Dr. Morgan climbs the cliff alone to ask for the answer to the plague. The episode is part of the X Minus One radio series, first broadcast on August 18, 1955, and is adapted from a story by Clifford Simak.
The planet Landro, a dead city and the cave country of its native inhabitants, after the plague has struck the expedition.
Characters: Captain Ira Warren, Bat Ears Brady, Dr. Morgan, Benny Faulkner
Listen for: The exchange between Benny Faulkner and the native through the tapping code, and the words Dr. Morgan scrawls on his pad.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
