What happens

Private investigator Peter Troy is hired by Caroline Varley, a blonde client who fears a jilted suitor will harm her, and he agrees to protect her for a fee. When the suitor, Laurie Webster, is found shot dead in his flat and Troy's gun is found beside the body, Inspector Melanie arrests Troy. Troy's lawyer, Regan, secures his release on the condition that Troy deliver a sealed package to a man named Giles Nolan. Troy must now decide how to carry out the delivery while the people behind the package seem intent on stopping him.

London, England, in the early 1960s, in Troy's private investigation office and a London apartment.

Characters: Peter Troy, Caroline Varley, Laurie Webster, Inspector Melanie, Regan, Julie, Giles Nolan

Listen for: Troy's narration as he describes the blonde client and the trap closing around him after the shooting.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
