What happens

Sade Goode asks her husband Vic to meet Miss Aparot downtown the next afternoon to exchange a Christmas gift of wash rags, a present from the Thimble Club ladies that she is supposed to pretend not to know about. Vic is reluctant and confused by the secrecy, and Sade insists he take the package hidden in the house to the meeting. Their conversation turns into a tangle of pretended ignorance, with Sade worried about spoiling the surprise and Vic protesting the fuss over something so minor. The episode is part of the Vic and Sade series, which aired on NBC, CBS and Mutual, with Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson in the lead roles.

The living room of the Goode family's small house, halfway up the next block, in the evening.

Characters: Sade Goode, Vic Goode, Rush, Miss Aparot, Ruthie

Listen for: Sade's repeated insistence that Vic must not say the words wash rags, and the tangled chain of who knows what about the gift.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
