What happens

Vic Gilhooley is excited about a midnight train trip to Chicago with his employer, Mr. Rubish, and tells his wife Sade that he is calm. Sade is skeptical of his mood and worries about his nerves as he prepares to leave. Their neighbors Ted and Ruthie Stembach phone to ask whether the couples will play five hundred that evening. Vic is packing for the trip, and he and Sade argue about what he will bring. The episode is a light domestic comedy of the Vic and Sade series, first aired on September 8, 1944, with Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson in the lead roles.

Characters: Vic, Sade, Mrs. Stembach, Ruthie Stembach, Ted Stembach, Mr. Rubish

Listen for: Vic insisting he is perfectly calm while plainly excited, and Sade's dry responses about his packing.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
