What happens

Mrs. Victor Gook, called Sade, plans to spend a morning cleaning her downstairs rooms, but she keeps being pulled away from her chores. Her friend Mrs. Frederick Stembottom telephones with an invitation to shop for wash rags, which Sade declines. Uncle Fletcher drops by for a visit and offers to help with the dusting, and a broken coffee cup and saucer add to the disruption. Sade spends much of the morning answering the telephone, managing the mess, and searching for a misplaced glasses case. The episode is the Vic and Sade series, first broadcast on September 17, 1941, with Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson in the leading roles.

The living room of the small house halfway up in the next block, one morning at about nine-fifteen.

Characters: Mrs. Victor Gook (Sade), Uncle Fletcher, Mrs. Frederick Stembottom (Ruthie), Miss Brighton, George

Listen for: Sade's attempts to keep to her cleaning plans as the phone calls and Uncle Fletcher's visit interrupt her.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
