What happens
Vic and Sade is a daytime radio serial, and this episode, titled Grand Old Lady, aired on June 4, 1941. Victor Gook and his son Rush sit at the library table in the small house, playing rummy after supper. Rush is tired of his father's jokes about having a sticky brain, and the two of them plan to go to the picture show. Sade is eager to leave early, though she has never before suggested a movie. When the evening paper cannot be found, Victor becomes flustered and insists the paper must have been misplaced. Rush tries to find out what his father is so upset about.
The Gook family's small house on Virginia Avenue, in the evening after supper
Characters: Victor Gook, Rush Gook, Sade Gook, Smelly Clark
Listen for: Victor's agitation over the missing newspaper and Sade's sudden eagerness to leave for the picture show
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
