What happens
Vic Gibson is annoyed when his neighbor Fred Stemper arrives with a blackboard, planning to show Vic and Sade how to budget their income with a simple set of books. Vic bristles at the suggestion that his household money needs organizing, and insists he is head of the bookkeeping department at the Consolidated Kitchenware Company. Sade tries to smooth things over as the couple argue about Fred's intentions. The conversation drifts into a squabble over which ice cream flavor to order from the drugstore, with Vic eventually settling on caramel. Vic and Sade is an NBC serial dating from February 11, 1942, starring Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson.
The Gibson household in the evening, where Fred is expected for a budgeting lesson, and later the drugstore by telephone.
Characters: Vic, Sade, Fred Stemper, Ruthie
Listen for: Vic's indignant insistence that he is head of the bookkeeping department at Consolidated Kitchenware, and the running argument over ice cream flavors.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
