What happens
Uncle Fletcher arrives at the Vic and Sade house in the afternoon and asks to lie down for a nap, saying he is working the night shift at the interurban station tonight. Vic, Sade and young Russell respond with a mix of politeness and curiosity, and Russell pesters the visitor with questions about his schedule and about railroad matters. Uncle Fletcher explains that he is substituting for the ticket agent and that his job runs through what he calls the dead man's trick. The family debates whether his long sleep makes sense, and Uncle Fletcher heads upstairs to rest. This is the Vic and Sade series, first broadcast on June 14, 1944.

Characters: Vic, Sade, Russell, Uncle Fletcher
Listen for: Uncle Fletcher's request to nap and his explanation of the dead man's trick
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
