What happens

Victor Good and his family are at home on an unremarkable evening, with Victor reading the paper and his son Rush reading aloud from a book. Their quiet is interrupted by a series of visitors and phone calls, including a self-described city statistician, Mr. Custard, who arrives with a notebook and muddles addresses and names. Neighbors Mrs. Trauma and Mrs. Amazon drop in while calls are made about ice cream flavors and errands. Vic and Sade is a long-running NBC radio daytime serial, and this episode aired on December 3, 1945, with Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson in the lead roles. The household's visitors keep the evening busy, and Sade remarks on how slow and tiresome the evening has been.

Characters: Victor Good, Sade Good, Rush Good, Mr. Custard, Mrs. Trauma, Mrs. Amazon, Mr. Fadt, Mrs. Emerson

Listen for: Mr. Custard's repeated, confused claims about being the city statistician and his iron-bound notebook, and the running back-and-forth over ice cream flavors.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
