What happens

Fletcher Rush calls a family conference at the small house halfway up in the next block, summoning Vic and sending their son Russell to the picture show. Fletcher says he has news about his landlady, Miss Keller, and her plans. Vic and Sadie wait impatiently as Fletcher delays, dwelling on his own dramatic phrasing. Vic is annoyed that the household has been pulled away from its evening to hear what seems a small matter. Sadie has already heard the news from her uncle, but she keeps the secret to let him enjoy the revelation. The transcript breaks off as the news is finally about to be delivered.

The living room of the small house halfway up in the next block, on a hot early evening in a small town.

Characters: Vic, Sadie, Fletcher Rush, Miss Keller, Russell

Listen for: Fletcher's grave, drawn-out way of announcing the news, and Vic and Sadie's reactions as they wait to hear it.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
