What happens

Victor Cook arrives home to find his sons, Rush and Sonny, eager to tell him about a long-distance call from Homer U. McDancy. McDancy has asked Vic to travel to Hunkerman, Maine, to meet five men who say they have heard much about him. Vic cannot think why strangers in Maine would know of him, and the family debates whether the request is sensible or a trick. Sade and Vic's household discusses the odd proposal over the supper hour, while Sade's neighbor Miss Donahue relays a comical squabble involving Miss Elders and Miss Call. The series is Vic and Sade, first aired May 30, 1941, with Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson in the leading roles. The family keeps weighing the call's details, including the expenses and the names read from Vic's notes.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
