What happens

Victor Goke comes home to the back porch, where his wife Sade is recovering from a recent cold. Sade has received a letter from her sister Bess, and Victor asks her to read it aloud. Sade reads the letter, and the reading turns into a series of mix-ups over words and phrases. Victor and Sade begin to bicker as the letter's contents are talked through. The Vic and Sade radio serial from 1944 is performed by Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson. The episode is a broadcast of this domestic comedy, with the household's small talk and misunderstandings at its center.

The back porch of the Goke house on a late afternoon in the neighborhood of a small house halfway up the block.

Characters: Vic Goke, Sade Goke, Margaret, Russell, Willie, Bess

Listen for: Sade reading Bess's letter aloud, and the repeated slips over the phrase "ha ha", which is heard as "ham ham".

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
