What happens

Victor Gook, a city official in a small town, learns that a business trip to Chicago will keep him away from home over Decoration Day weekend, just when he is in charge of the town's parade. He tells his wife Sade and his son Rush that the parade is fully planned in his notes, and he tries to reach Mayor Simmons to explain his absence. Attempts to arrange a return train and a late-afternoon parade meet with objections from his family, and the mayor's office proves hard to reach. Vic and Sade is a daytime radio comedy of the 1930s, and this episode first aired on May 28, 1937, with Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson in the lead roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
