What happens
Vic and Sade is a daytime radio serial, and this episode from December 1941 takes place at Victor Cook's office at the Consolidated Kitchenware Company rather than at the family's small house. Vic is visited by Pete, who asks for money for Christmas presents, and he explains that he needs more each year as he grows older. Pete presents a long list of relatives and friends, with an amount written beside each name, and he argues that the total of twenty-five dollars is already shaved down as far as it can go. Meanwhile Vic handles a series of phone calls from business associates and friends, including Hank, who also wants money. The scene shows the household money matters in a light, comic tone.
Victor Cook's modest office at the Consolidated Kitchenware Company, plant number 14, on an afternoon in December 1941.
Characters: Vic, Pete, Hudson, Hank, Dr. Sleech, Willis, Sade
Listen for: Pete's formal speech asking for Christmas present money and his breakdown of the list of names and amounts.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
