What happens

Mamie Cass, a housewife, reads about a series of murders of women in the city and suggests to her husband Ben that the killer lives inside a square formed by the locations of the crimes. She mails her theory to the police, who are desperate for a lead. When a murder occurs close to the point her lines indicate, Mamie begins to suspect that Ben, who has missed work on the nights of the killings, may be the culprit. The Whistler narrates this episode of the 1945 broadcast series.

A city neighborhood in the 1940s, including the Cass home, the Cass husband's factory, and the police headquarters.

Characters: Mamie Cass, Ben Cass, Captain Shane, Commissioner, Sergeant Smith, Sergeant Schmidt

Listen for: Mamie's growing realization about Ben's absences from work on the nights of the murders, and the confrontation between them.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
