What happens

Greg Fallon, after a card game turns deadly on a train, returns to his hometown of Twin Pine, where he was raised. He is welcomed by old friends and by Mrs. Morrison, but a gunman fires at him on his way across town. Greg begins to wonder which of the people he has reconnected with might want him dead, and he learns of a murder from years earlier that touches his past. The Whistler series, broadcast on the Signal Oil program, presents the story in its usual noir style, with narration by the Whistler.

Twin Pine, a small town in the Northwest, and a night train traveling through mountain passes

Listen for: The gunshot in the vacant lot and Greg's conversation with Doris in the garden at Mrs. Morrison's party

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
