What happens
George Wilson asks his old friend Albert Shannon for a loan of two thousand dollars so he can marry, but Albert refuses and lectures him about being a dreamer rather than a doer. Shortly afterward, Albert receives a typed note demanding five thousand dollars, threatening to reveal a past prison sentence for embezzlement from the firm of Shannon and Reed. George is drawn into the scheme as Albert's confidant, and the blackmail continues. The story follows the escalating demands and the growing pressure on everyone involved, all told through the events in the episode's first part. Note: this summary covers only the portion of the broadcast available in the transcript.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
