What happens

Bert Williams and Sandra Albers, lovers who meet secretly after leaving the Golden Pheasant nightclub, find Sandra's husband Arthur Albers dead in his office, shot in the head. Arthur, Bert's business partner, had a partnership insurance policy that pays out only for accidental or natural death, not suicide. Bert and Sandra begin to consider making the death look like murder, and the story follows their scheme as they handle the evidence and deal with the police. This Whistler episode, from the Signal Oil program, was first broadcast on October 16, 1944.

A rain-soaked evening in a city, with a nightclub called the Golden Pheasant and an office where Arthur Albers and his partner run their business.

Characters: Bert Williams, Sandra Albers, Arthur Albers, Sanders, The Whistler

Listen for: Listen for Bert and Sandra deciding how to make Arthur's death look like murder, and for the insurance clause that shapes their plan.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
