What happens

Peter Jerry Peters, a riveter at a war plant, agrees to carry a lunch kit for a man with a foreign accent in exchange for money. Gus, a mechanic, has rigged the kit with a bomb. Peters is told the detonator is set for 6:30 the next morning, and he has to decide what to do while the plant is busy and the clock keeps ticking. The Whistler is a radio mystery series, and this episode, Death Carries a Lunch Kit, aired on October 23, 1944. The transcript does not name the lead actors, so the cast is not stated here.

A rented room where a bomb is built, and then a war plant during the night shift and the early morning, with its parking lot, locker room and dispensary.

Characters: Peter (Jerry Peters), Gus, Mr. Schacht, Pop, Mr. Davis, the staff doctor

Listen for: The steady ticking of the detonator in Gus's room and the rising tension as Peters watches the clock during the night shift.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
