What happens

Peter Jerry Peters, a riveter at a war plant, takes a job from a man with a foreign accent and carries a lunch kit containing a bomb to the plant. Peters is frightened as he drives his father to work and is forced to keep the lunch kit with him through the night shift. Tense moments follow as Peters struggles to get the lunch kit out of the plant before the timer runs down. The episode is part of the radio series The Whistler, broadcast on CBS on October 23, 1944, in the early part of the show.

A war plant and a small city in the 1940s, including a rented house, a car on the road to the plant, and the factory grounds at night and early morning.

Characters: Jerry Peters, Pop, Gus, Mr. Shark, Mr. Davis, the plant doctor

Listen for: The ticking of the timer inside the lunch kit and the whistle at the plant.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
