What happens

Helen Van Norton has waited six years for word of her brother Ted, who left for the Orient before Pearl Harbor. When a cablegram announces his return by steamer, she meets a tall stranger in a stateroom who claims to be Ted. Helen insists he is an impostor, while the stranger produces a passport, papers and a plan to take up residence in her house. Her lawyer George urges caution as she tests the claim through old acquaintances and official records. The Whistler series, first aired 2 September 1946 on CBS.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
