What happens

Songwriter Ted Gray has grown to resent his partner, lyricist Al Wilson, and he resents Al's apparent hold on Corinne Mitchell, the woman Ted loves. When Al announces that he is about to become engaged, Ted realizes that Al's death would leave him sole owner of their songs and free to pursue Corinne. He begins to plan a killing, arranging a visit to Al's apartment and witnesses who can vouch for his whereabouts. The story follows Ted's careful preparations and the aftermath as the police begin their questions.

A songwriting partnership in a city, with a music publishing office, an apartment building, and a radio program.

Characters: Ted Gray, Al Wilson, Corinne Mitchell, Frankie, Gracie, Lieutenant Roberts, Mrs. Carter, Peter Potter

Listen for: Ted's plans for his alibi, and the lyric line that Corinne and the police later examine.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
