What happens
Jean Bates is engaged to Max, a researcher whose work on an anti-encephalitis drug, E-37, is blocked by his superior, Dr. Olson. Max plans to test the drug on a human subject without permission, and he asks Jean for faith and secrecy. The two drive to an isolated farmhouse in southern Vermont, where Max's aunt Agnes lives, and set up a makeshift laboratory. Jean begins to doubt Max's motives and wonders what he is willing to risk for his work. This recap covers only the first part of the episode. The Whistler series was broadcast on CBS, and this episode aired on September 24, 1947.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
