What happens
Delbert Reed, assistant to the curator of the Prescott Museum, is passed over and then dismissed after his padded expense claims come to light. Dr. Prescott, the museum's curator, is set to retire, and Delbert, who has long loved his secretary Louise Francis, decides to take matters into his own hands. Delbert takes the doctor's keys and steals the papers from his safe, planning to frame a colleague. Delbert also strikes the bridge leading to the doctor's mountain cabin. This is an episode of The Whistler, originally broadcast on September 10, 1947.
A museum in a city, and a remote mountain cabin on Black Mountain reached by a winding road and a bridge.
Characters: Delbert Reed, Dr. Prescott, Louise Francis, Frank Spiegel, Carl Gorman, Joe Hannigan
Listen for: Delbert's inner monologue as he decides how to deal with his dismissal, and the Whistler's narration of his plan.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
