What happens

Marie Medford travels across the country to Medford Manor to meet her only living relative, her uncle Peter, a jungle explorer now confined to a wheelchair. Clay Alden, Peter's secretary, meets her at the station and the house feels strange and unwelcoming from the start. Marie is shown a collection of shrunken heads, and one of them, called Charlie, soon troubles her with vivid nightmares. She tries to find work, but her jobs end abruptly, and she begins to doubt her own mind. The story is part of the Whistler series, broadcast on CBS in 1942.

Characters: Marie Medford, Peter Medford, Clay Alden, Victor

Listen for: Marie's account of her nightmares and the voice that says 'My name's Charlie'

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
