What happens

Ambrose Brent, an official at an airplane plant, finds notes in his own handwriting that read "I must kill Henry." Alarmed, he turns to his friend Dr. Fenwick, who advises him to rest and leave town, while Henry Pierce, Ambrose's partner, urges the same. Ambrose travels to a mountain cabin, but that night he is shaken by strange sounds and a sense that something is terribly wrong. The Whistler series, first broadcast on CBS on June 27, 1942, presents this tale of nerves, suspicion and a troubled mind.

A large house on a stormy night, Henry Pierce's office, and a mountain cabin in the 1940s.

Characters: Ambrose Brent, Henry Pierce, Dr. Fenwick, Doris Brent, Jameson, Inspector Fields, Mr. Carns

Listen for: The handwritten notes that Ambrose keeps finding, and the reasons Dr. Fenwick gives for each step he takes.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
