What happens

Chris Matthews, who runs a literary agency in San Francisco with his partner Freddie Stacey, is alarmed by a series of near-fatal accidents and suspects someone is trying to kill him. His fiancée Eve Leland shares his fears. A visit from Lieutenant Driscoll of the Canadian Intelligence Service, who looks very much like Chris's friend Captain Driscoll, brings up the captain's murder and a missing royal dagger set with jewels. Chris and Freddie grow openly distrustful of each other as the dagger is due to arrive by ship. The episode is part of The Whistler series and was broadcast on October 14, 1951.

Characters: Chris Matthews, Freddie Stacey, Eve Leland, John, Helen, Lieutenant Driscoll, Al Higgins

Listen for: The intense exchange between Chris and Freddie about their mutual distrust, and the sound of the train passing the waterfront.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
