What happens
Marshall Blake returns secretly from a supposed business trip to the apartment building where his wife Melody lives, and his lover Helen waits in the building. Their plan to kill Melody with a poisoned drink goes wrong when her body seems to vanish from the elevator. Blake and the building's manager, Prentice, search the building for her, and the perfume that lingers in the halls suggests she is still near. The Whistler, with Bill Forman as the host, tells this story from the Whistler radio series, first broadcast May 12, 1955.
An apartment building in a city, its fourth and sixth floors, the elevator, a third-floor landing, and a basement garage.
Characters: Marshall Blake, Melody Blake, Helen Mason, Mr. Prentice, Mrs. McPherson, Mr. Novello
Listen for: Listen for the lingering scent of Melody's perfume, which seems to follow Blake through the building as the missing body puzzles him.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
