What happens

Charles Belden, the married manager of a London importing firm, takes on Laurie as a housekeeper and begins to feel drawn to her. His wife Helen is displeased with the arrangement and grows impatient with Laurie's odd habits. Charles grows increasingly absorbed with Laurie, and their unspoken bond deepens as he considers his options. The Whistler series, first broadcast on May 5, 1955, presents this story as a strange tale of desire and secrets, and the episode builds a tense domestic situation between the three characters.

A fog-bound house in the English countryside near the coast, with a nearby village, a constable's office, and cliffs, in London's orbit.

Characters: Charles Belden, Helen Belden, Laurie Edgley

Listen for: Pay attention to how Laurie communicates with Charles and how Helen reacts to the household's changes.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
