What happens

Danny Williams, a recently paroled ex-convict, takes a job as piano player at Paradise Inn, a roadhouse beside Mirror Lake in the Sierras. He soon finds the owner's wife, Lucille, to be trouble, and the roadhouse's gambling operator, Andy Slade, is openly hostile to him. Danny tries to keep his head down and stay out of trouble, but his resolve weakens when Lucille seeks him out. Late one night, a confrontation with Johnny Hedges, Lucille's husband, leaves Hedges injured, and Danny must decide what to do next. The Whistler is a radio anthology series, and this episode was broadcast on November 28, 1948.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
